Richard is primarily known for his djing and music production over the past 15 years. In 2001 he launched his own label, Further Out Recordings, to release music under the names of Solar Apple Quarktette, Neptune Alpha Base Massive, solo material and now with his wife Annabel (lee). Mixing lounge, jazz, breaks, electronica, bossa, funk, folk, soul, latin, exotica and film noir in fresh and delightful ways.

His academic background, however, is in art and design. A one year foundation course covering photography, painting, commercial art and sculpture in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne followed by a degree course in Fine Art at Newport in Gwent, South Wales. He has painted and exhibited occasionally in the years since, but has mainly focused on his love for creating music.

He has managed to incorporate his art training by using his own photographs and designs for many of the Further Out releases. In May of 2010 Richard and Annabel moved from London to Los Angeles to be closer to her family. The light, architecture, colour and space of California inspired this collection of images which Richard is planning to exhibit as photographic prints and also rework as a series of acrylic paintings.
