Soulpersona is a man of many talents. As well as being a producer, songwriter, arrange or and musical director, Soulpersona is also founder of Digisoul Recordings (with his brother Tom), and Head Of Label for his extended Digisoul family. His debut album 'Soulpersonic Sessions' is a reassuringly heroic reflection of the multi-faceted soul behind the persona. Born in Cardiff, Wales, Soulpersona began his relationship with music in a farmhouse attic with a record player, listening to everything in his parents record collection, playing along with an improvised drumkit made of cardboard boxes and ice cream tubs.
As years progressed, soulpersona became infatuated by 70's Soul,Raregroove, Funk and Jazz recordings, his own brand of musical expression was soon to follow, culminating in the outstanding debut that is 'The Soulpersonic Sessions'. As a child, it was his Grandmother who had encouraged him with his music, always telling him never to give up. Taking her advice, Soulpersona has dedicated his life to soul music, a decision that paid off in 2001, when he caught the attention of Jocelyn Brown, who at the time was auditioning producers. Playing his trademark Raregroove sound in a room full of House Music producers, Soulpersona went on to work for Jocelyn as her Creative A&R and as personal assistant to Oliver Cheatham.
Four years on, Soulpersona's work has been both complimented and complemented by his peers, which include Jocelyn Brown, Oliver Cheatham, Patti Austin, Leon Ware and Ray Gaskins, among many others. This recognition is well deserved, for there is a control demonstrated in 'Soulpersonic Sessions', particularly in the production that implies a far deeper understanding of music than he lets on. The lyrics have a directness that is both disarming and uplifting at the same time, presenting a stark reality that laces the flawless grooves with an edge that can only be described as Life. With no need for the abject apology of metaphor, Soulpersona gets to the point and tells it how it is while still maintaining the momentum and variety necessary to carry you through each of the thirteen tracks. What is effectively a sensitive and introspective album retains a universality of theme and timing that shows enormous promise for the future of both Digisoul and Soulpersona. 'Soulpersonic Sessions' is the culmination of a life of devotion to a single goal, and if Digisoul sets the standard, then Soulpersona is the benchmark.
